Kansas City, Missouri September 11, 2004 - In 2004, Arrow Fabricare marks 90 years on Troost and this old-line business is providing inspiration to the Troost Corridor neighborhood. Not only is there "inspiration," there is "perspiration" too. For the third time in the past 20 years, Arrow has added space and 'living wage' jobs. The most recent expansion is a 6,300 sq. ft. "L" shaped area on the north side of the existing plant.
"With the new housing being developed just east of Arrow, the resurgence of the River Market lofts and renewed interest in the central city, we are very optimistic about developing new businesses along Troost," said Al Figuly, Executive Director, Planned Industrial Expansion Authority. "Arrow has committed and re-committed to their Troost location through the years. Now the KCATA has built their Metro Center at 39th and Troost, complete with a daycare facility. The central location and the Troost east-west "feeder" streets make this area a very desirable business location."
According to Bruce A. Gershon, President, the new facility houses a new, refrigerated vault for fur storage, an expanded leather and fur cleaning and repair area, plus a new shipping and receiving work area and dock, and an expanded space for employee comfort and meetings. "It's making a world of difference," he said of the expansion. "We've been in cramped space here for a couple of years while we've moved forward with the plans to expand. I have to acknowledge the commitment and customer-focused dedication of the Arrow employees who have maintained smooth work flow in somewhat difficult circumstances."
Arrow provides care of garments and household soft goods such as pillows and bedding, as well as leather cleaning and repair, fur cleaning and storage. The Troost site is the primary location for the company, though residential and commercial pickup and delivery is available, along with a large mail order business. A second site in North Kansas City provides cleaning and restoration of smoke, water and mold from fire damaged household goods. Arrow also operates a French (hand) laundry for high-end household items at that site.
Herman A.Scharhag Architects completed the final architectural renderings and plans. Iseman Construction Company built the new addition. Norton and Schmidt were the consulting engineers. Harrington/Los Padres Bank handled the construction loan. Professional Service Industries, Inc. provided materials testing. Gary Marsh, ASID, of Sermon-Anderson Design planned the redesign of the existing customer service counters.
